But towards the end of 1745 the Inn was used by the Duke of Devonshire as his headquarters to raise ‘The Derbyshire Blues’ – an army of 600 men which was divided into 2 groups of 300 men to help stop Charles Edward Stuart taking the throne from King George II. Sir Nathaniel Curzon and the Marquess of Hartington (the Dukes son) both led the regiments but they had to withdraw to Nottingham on the 3 rd of December 1745 to fight against the princes 9000 strong army that had arrived in Ashbourne, on the 4th of December the prince arrived at the Inn and demanded it be a billet for his troops.
The Inn remained as the George Inn for many years until recently when it was renamed ‘the George’ then ‘Mr Jorrocks’ after the owner but now is just Jorrocks.
