History

Carnfield Hall is a beautiful Grade II listed building, records of the property date back to the early 14th century it was owned but the Babington family who also owned Dethick Manor, it was then sold to Hugh Revell in 1502, the hall stayed in the Revell family up until the death of Tristam Revell in 1797 it was then passed on to Tristams cousin Sir John Eardley Wilmot.

But while the Revell family owned the hall it went under extensive remodelling and reconstruction especially by Robert Revell (High Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1700) in about 1710. It has recently been discovered that Robert Revell was murdered in his own bed by 2 servants.

After Sir John Eardley Wilmot owned the hall it passed to different families over the years up until 1960 when the hall had to be abandoned, due to mining subsidence causing structural damage. In 1987 James Cartland bought the hall and restored it to how it stands today and was sold in 2011 to Graham Oliver and the hall is now used for hold events for the public.
