History
It’s said that Sir Christopher Alleyn built the original hall in 1556 whilst being married to Audrey so she could be close to her family who lived in Staffordshire. Sir Alleyn built the hall with the reclaimed materials from the former priory that stood on the land, the priory was built in the 1100’s.
The house that stands today is dated 1664 and its said that it was the grandson of Sir Christopher Alleyn, john Alleyn, who rebuilt it before dying in 1712 when it was then past to the last of the Alleyn family, Samuel Stevenson Alleyn.
The only part of the original hall is the chimney stack that now enclosed inside the house. The house has not been touched since the 19th century even the Victorian graffiti in the attic still remains.
